Beginning in 1979, Tom Beckett served as a wine educator, consultant, wine importer, and event coordinator for such large institutions as Memorial University and the Newfoundland Liquor Corporation, for smaller private and public institutions and organizations, and for individuals. From 1979 to 1992, Tom established and fostered the Newfoundland branch of the Opimian Society, the Wine Society of Canada. He served as Assistant General Manager, Eastern Canada, for the Opimian Society during 1993 through 1995 and was inducted into the Opimian Wine Society Hall of Fame in 2003. Tom's knowledge of wine is appreciated outside of Canada as he served on the judging panel for the East Anglia Wine of the Year for 2007.
